Aiming Point

This picture, taken from the front seat of a Helio Courier, captures something that is a subtle but very powerful motivator for me. I have had the goal of seeing this exact situation for a long time. Nearly from the beginning of my flight training. It is NOT about being the pilot who gets to land on some extravagant airstrip in a sweet airplane. For me it is a testimony. For me to end up piloting an airplane down final approach into a technical airstrip represents the relentless faithfulness and tireless grace of our awesome Creator. To be given the ability to use a passion like flying for the good of many different people gives meaning and vibrancy to the work that flying is. I'm not quite at the point of making those flights but Rachel and I are getting much closer and if God continues to be as good to us in the next 10 years as he has in the last 10 then I have plenty of reasons to be a very thankful man.
